Pick a deck, hold the phone sideways against your forehead with the screen facing your friends, and wait for the countdown. Your friends act out or describe the word on the screen while you guess. Tilt the phone down when you get it, tilt it up to pass. When time runs out, you see how many you got.

With tilt controls, hold the phone upright on your forehead in landscape and keep it still for a moment: the countdown starts by itself. With tap controls on, tap anywhere on the screen to start.

Tip the phone clearly, about a third of the way toward the floor or the ceiling, then bring it back upright before the next word. Holding a tilt only counts once, and two moves within half a second count as one. If tilting is awkward for your group, switch on Tap controls in the app's settings.

Yes. Turn on Tap controls in the app's settings, then tap the right half of the screen for correct and the left half to pass. Tap controls also switch on by themselves on devices without motion sensors.

On a deck's screen, turn on Play in teams, name 2 to 20 teams and choose how many rounds each team plays, from 1 to 20. The game tells you which team is up, shows the standings after every turn and announces the winner at the end. Ties happen, and the game says so.

Yes. Choose 30, 60, 90 or 120 seconds on a deck's screen before you play. Quick Play on the home screen skips the setup and starts a Mixed Bag round right away.

Not until you have played through the whole deck. Charades remembers the cards you have seen in each deck, separately for every language, and only reshuffles once the deck is used up.

English, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Hindi, Simplified Chinese and Arabic. Charades follows your iPhone's language. To play in a different one, open your iPhone's Settings, find Charades in the list of apps and choose a language there. Each language has its own cards rather than a word-for-word translation.

The timer pauses while Charades is in the background and picks up where it left off when you come back. The screen also stays awake for the whole round.

Yes. The game itself never needs a connection. Buying or restoring premium does.

Charades is designed for iPhone and needs iOS 16 or later. Tilt controls use the iPhone's motion sensors.

The app's settings have separate switches for sounds and haptics. Sounds also follow your iPhone's ringer switch, and they play over your music without stopping it.

A yearly subscription that starts with a 3-day free trial, or a one-time Lifetime unlock. Both open every deck. Prices are shown in the app in your local currency before you buy.

Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Charades. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial or the current year ends to avoid the next charge. Premium stays unlocked until the end of the period you already have.

On the same iPhone, Charades usually finds your purchase by itself when it starts. On a new iPhone, or if the decks are still locked, open the app's settings and tap Restore Purchases while signed in with the Apple Account you bought with.

Purchases are handled by Apple, and so are refunds. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, find the purchase and choose "Request a refund". Apple decides refunds; we cannot issue them ourselves.

No, there is nothing to sign up for. Purchases are tied to your Apple Account and to a random anonymous ID that lets them survive a reinstall. The privacy page has the details.

Delete the app to remove your settings, team names and card progress. To also erase the anonymous purchase ID, email us with the order ID from your App Store receipt. The privacy page explains what is kept where.
